About Our Program

Massasoit’s Corporate and Community Education division collaborates with Gould Construction Institute in offering a series of courses that prepare individuals for a fruitful career in the construction industry.  Courses in electrical, sprinkler fitting, and sheet metal are offered at Massasoit's Canton campus and Plymouth location. 

About Gould Construction Institute

Gould Construction Institute is the training affiliate to Associated Builders and Contractors and has been a leader in construction training for more than a decade.  The organization is fully licensed by the Division of Professional Licensure / Office of Private Occupational School Education and approved by the following: Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship; Board of Massachusetts Electrical Examiners; Department of Public Safety and the Board of State of Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters and the Board of Examiners of Sheet Metal Workers.  Instruction is provided by State certified trade instructors and industry professionals. 

Classes start in September and end in May 

Electrical 1, Part 1
This 9-month (150-hour) certificate program covers the Basic Safety; Introduction to Construction Math; Introduction to Hand Tools; Introduction to Power Tools; Introduction to Construction Drawings; Basic Rigging; Basic Communication Skills; Basic Employability Skills; Introduction to Materials Handling; Orientation to the Electrical Trade; Electrical Safety; Introduction to Electrical Circuits; Electrical Theory; Introduction to the National Electrical Code (NEC); Device Boxes; Hand Bending; Raceways and Fittings; Conductors and Cables; Basic Electrical Construction Drawings; Residential Electrical Services; Electrical Test Equipment. It is recommended that all students bring a copy of the latest National Electrical Code, NEC Handbook to class.

Electrical 2, Part 1
This 9 month (150-hour) certificate program covers the Alternating Current; Motors: Theory and Application; Electric Lighting; Conduit Bending; Pull and Junction Boxes; Conductor Installations; Cable Tray; Conductor Terminations and Splices; Grounding and Bonding; Circuit Breakers and Fuses; Control Systems and Fundamental Concepts. It is recommended that all students bring a copy of the latest National Electrical Code, NEC Handbook to class.

Sprinkler Fitting 3, Part 1
This 9-month (150-hour) certificate course covers Hangers, Supports, Restraints, and Guides; General Purpose Valves; General Trade Math; Shop Drawings; Standard Spray Fire Sprinklers; Wet Fire Sprinkler Systems and Dry-Pipe Systems. It is recommended that all students bring a copy of the latest NFPA 13 Automatic Sprinkler Systems Handbook to class.

Pipefitting 3, Part 1
This 9-month (150-hour) certificate course covers Steam Traps, In-Line Specialties, Hot Taps, Introduction to Hydronic Systems, Commercial Hydronic Systems, Steam Systems, Water Treatment, Energy Conservation Equipment, ASME Codes for Heating, Cooling & Power Piping, Special Piping, Semiconductor/Hazardous Gas Piping Systems, Biopharm Piping Systems, Orbital Welding Fabrication, Chemical/Corrosion Resistant Piping Systems, Compressed Air Piping Systems and ASME Code for Process Piping. It is required that all students bring a copy of "The Pipe Fitters Blue Book" - Published by Graves.

Sheet Metal 3, Part 1
This 9-month (150-hour) certificate course covers the Safety Review; Trade Math II; Introduction to supervisory skills; Air properties and distribution; Principles of air flow; Air testing and balancing; Fabrication III- triangulation; Blue Print reading /Estimating and Hands on shop fabrication.

Withdrawal, Refund & Cancellation Information
You must complete and submit in person a withdrawal form, which is available at any of our locations.

Withdrawals before the start of the first class are granted a 100% refund. Withdrawals after the first class are refunded 0-50% depending on the length of the course. 

Certain courses may be cancelled due to low registration.  Enrolled students will be notified as soon as cancellation decisions are made.  A full refund will be provided to students who have enrolled in a class that has been cancelled by Massasoit Community College.
