2015 New Impressions Print Competition

Three talented students took home four awards for themselves and Massasoit at the New Impressions Print Competition sponsored by Speedball Art. The competition awarded $10,000 in prizes and was juried by a panel of influential printmakers Bill Fick, Carlos Hernandez, and Susan Rostow. College students from across the country were invited to submit up to three prints each. First, second and third prizes were awarded in five printmaking categories: Screen Printing, Relief Printing, Etching, Monotype and Wildcard. Prizes were in product credit of $500, $250 & $150 with matching product credit for the students art program. Prints must have been printed on the new Arnhem 1618, a 100% rag premium printmaking paper recently launched by Speedball.

Rebecka Pinkham of Hingham, won first and third prize in the Monotype category, Wendy Bier-Swanson of Norwood, won second prize in Relief Printing and Michael Coleman of Somerville, took third prize in Screen Printing. In addition, two special School Spirit Awards, each worth $500 in product credit, were awarded to Massasoit for the school with the most entries and the school with the most individual winners for a total of $2,050 in product credit. Other northeast regional colleges who won prizes included the School of the Museum of Fine Arts-Boston and the School of the Visual Arts in NYC.
