Turning Lead into Gold
This will be a brief introduction to the forgotten and overlooked science of alchemy, the predecessor of modern chemistry. We will begin with modern perceptions and misconceptions about alchemy, followed by the historic origins and development of alchemy looking into some of the fundamental concepts underlying alchemy. We will touch upon the relationship of alchemy to other developing sciences as well as economics, religion, philosophy, and law in Early Modern Europe (circa 1400-1800).
